Let me guess, the sound of a VHS tape rewinding is basically your happy place. You know exactly which key on the keyboard to press so you don’t die of dysentery, and you still think movie soundtracks were just better back then.
If you just nodded your head, you’re definitely in the right place.
I’m Joquita Blanco, and yup, I’m a real-deal 80s baby. For me, the 80s weren’t just some retro fad on a t-shirt – it was my actual childhood. The music, the movies, the questionable fashion choices… I was there for all of it, and I remember it like it was yesterday.
So, why this blog? Honestly, I got tired of websites that just listed old toys without any soul. I wanted to talk about why this stuff still matters to us. Why do we all still get choked up during The Goonies? Why does the opening synth of a certain song instantly transport us back to the middle school dance? That’s what we do here – figure it all out together.
This little corner of the internet started as a passion project, but it’s kind of become my superpower. I’ve spent so much time diving into this stuff that I’ve gotten pretty good at understanding what makes us Gen Xers and Millennials tick. As it turns out, that’s a useful skill. I now work with people and brands who want to connect with our generation in a way that doesn’t feel fake or cheesy.
So that’s me. Feel free to look around, read a few posts, and definitely drop a comment
I read them all. And hey, if you’re working on a project and need someone who genuinely gets the 80s, I’m your person.
Glad you’re here.
