Although the sugar daddy was created in 1925 by a person that sells chocolate for a living by the name of James O. Welch Company. This candy was a big part of my childhood.
Maybe it has something to do with the tootsie roll company buying this candy in 1988 and making it more popular. Even though
it’s super hard to crew. This caramel candy was the best candy I ever had. I miss the days when I would seat on the back porch and enjoy every bit of this candy.
This candy was introduced to the world after the success of the sugar daddy in 1963 and bought by tootsie roll in 1993. It was made for the same ingredient that was made from the original sugar daddy candy, the only difference was that this candy was bit size and was able to be eaten one by one rather than one whole thing at a time.
At the start of this candy production, there was a completely different name than what we call it today. I was called “Papa Sucker” later after the candy becomes more known, the name was changed to “Sugar Daddy Candy” which in other terms can mean a wealth of sweetness.
While this candy may not be as popular as it was in the 80s. This candy is still being sold at many stores. But if you were to go to your local store, I am almost certain that you will not see this candy on their shelves.
You may be able to find this caramel goodness at stores: like Walgreens, Walmart, etc. But being that this candy is less popular than it was you may have to ask the manager to order it for you or ask them where it would be located in their store. To avoid all those issues it would be easy just to order it online. Below I have a few links to sugar daddy candy that you can get from amazon.
If this was your favorite candy as well, let me know in the comment below.
